blessings

i heard a quote once: nothing happens, and nothing happens, and then everything happens. we had a period of about a week-and-a-half like this last month. first, we found out christopher was promoted to lead engineer! in case you're wondering, he does still work on the hot gas path. while this isn't as hilarious as the first time i heard it, it still strikes me as kind of funny. the next big thing that happened was that i also got a promotion at my job! my new role will start next month as a mental health counselor II. (as opposed to a mental health counselor I; the government is very creative with their titles.) and then, the biggest news of all was that we made an offer on a house, and the sellers accepted!! in a few weeks, we will be calling this home:eva is going to have fun running around in the backyard! we are so thankful for all three of these blessings. God is good!

job :)

praise the Lord - i got & accepted a job offer this week!! i had two interviews in the past month, which was encouraging after not hearing anything for so long. i was concerned about the possibility of having to decide between the two agencies, so i prayed that God would close the door to the first agency if the second one was right for me - and that's exactly what He did!

the position is as a counselor at greenville mental health center, which is only 15 minutes from where we live. the job description is almost exactly what i had in mind when i graduated last may. i'll be working with adults on an outpatient basis that are primarily struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mood disorders. i'm excited about getting to do outpatient because i only got to work with inpatient populations during my internship at the hospital. this means i'll be able to develop longer relationships with clients and see them on an ongoing basis. it also means i'll be working normal business hours, which is thrilling! (it's surprising how few opportunities don't involve working on nights & weekends.) the caseload is rather large, but the good thing is i'll get to do a lot of group therapy. this was my favorite part of my internship!

i won't start until july because the agency is part of the state government (SC dept of mental health), so there's a little red tape. in the meantime, i plan to continue volunteering and to enjoy my last month off. i already have a couple art projects in mind!

job update

on tuesday, i was feeling more frustrated than ever about not having a job, and i prayed for trust in God's timing. not even one hour after i finished praying, i got a phone call from a place i interviewed checking on one of my references (jamey!). it was just the encouragement i needed, and i felt like God was reminding me He was still working in that situation. then a few hours later i got a job offer and felt like it was a direct answer to my prayers!

i start next week as a treatment coordinator at a group home for boys where i'll be providing group & individual therapy, as well as some family sessions. i'm excited that my supervisors are open to letting me incorporate art into the group sessions. i'm definitely nervous about starting something new, but i truly feel like this is what God prepared for me.
